Connecting the care
“With carers in desperate need of PPE, we needed to launch the website fast. A huge thank you to Rob and it’seeze Scarborough for playing an integral part – volunteering their time and expertise, and going above and beyond to launch the website in a matter of days.
The website looks fantastic and works perfectly – helping to connect carers across the UK with the PPE they desperately need.”
- Samuel Barrington - #MakeMasks4Carers

When the coronavirus crisis hit, it put huge pressure on the UK social care sector and those who work in it. With care homes and home care providers struggling to get their hands on essential PPE – it’seeze Web Design Scarborough volunteered to support a local initiative to help ensure frontline carers had access to the masks and face shields they needed.

The Client

In April 2020, North Yorkshire based care home consultant and care quality specialist, Samuel Barrington, launched #MakeMasks4Carers – a LinkedIn campaign to help the care sector find volunteers in the UK willing to provide the PPE they needed.

Inspired by #FindTheMasks, Samuel wanted to launch and promote a nationwide database of volunteer makers, so care homes and care home providers could access protective masks, face shields, and visors for free or at cost.

The Challenge

By May 2020, the situation was serious.

With usual suppliers diverting their products to the NHS, there was an unprecedented shortage of PPE at care homes, and for care providers across the UK.

#MakeMasks4Carers was a great idea, but Sam needed the support of a team of volunteers to bring the project together.

Time was of the essence, and he needed a web design partner that was willing to volunteer their skills for free, and to bring the project together as quickly as possible.

We immediately volunteered and took on the challenge.

The Solution

Working with a volunteer copywriter and with technical support from the makers of #FindTheMasks, we designed, developed, and launched the platform in just over a week!

By the middle of May, the website was live, and the first volunteers had joined the cause – with more coming on board over the coming weeks. Thanks to #MakeMasks4Carers, volunteer organisations have already supplied tens of thousands of masks to carers across the UK.
